Two brothers, Damion Powell (44) and Collin Daley (42), were tragically shot and killed while enjoying a game of dominoes at a shop in Burnt Savannah, Westmoreland, on Saturday night. The community is left in shock and mourning as they come to terms with the senseless loss of two well-known and respected individuals.
The incident, which occurred around 9 p.m., saw the brothers and a group of men ambushed by two assailants on a motorcycle. Without warning, the attackers opened fire on the unsuspecting group, resulting in Powell and Daley sustaining fatal gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. Additionally, a 61-year-old man who was present at the scene was also shot in the leg and is currently receiving medical treatment in hospital.
This tragedy adds to the growing number of homicides in Westmoreland, with the parish recording 37 murders since the beginning of the year. The community’s grief is further compounded by a recent surge in gang violence, as evidenced by a peace march held just hours before the fatal shooting.
