The Police Command in Lagos State has reported a heartbreaking incident on the Iganmu-Apapa Expressway, where a five-year-old girl, known as Bosede, lost her life in a tragic accident. The young girl was crushed by a truck while crossing the busy expressway with her mother.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer for the command, confirmed the devastating incident to the media on Sunday. According to reports, the Iponri Police Division received information about the accident on Saturday around 11:30 a.m.
The fatal accident occurred at Iganmu under the bridge, heading towards Apapa, involving a truck whose driver remains unidentified at this time.
Tragically, the little girl and her mother were attempting to cross the expressway when the truck collided with them, resulting in the young girl sustaining fatal head injuries. She tragically lost her life on the spot due to the impact of the collision.
Following the incident, police traffic officers from the division promptly responded and attended to the scene. The young girl’s lifeless body was removed from the scene and handed over to her family for burial arrangements.
An investigation has been launched by the authorities to apprehend the driver of the truck, who fled the scene following the tragic accident. The police are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrator to justice and ensure that such incidents are prevented in the future.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for all road users to exercise caution and vigilance while navigating busy highways and expressways.
