Accident – Death – Obituary News : A fourth individual of Indian nationality has been apprehended and formally accused in Canada in connection with the assassination of pro-Khalistan activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, British Columbia last year. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Amandeep Singh, has ties to Brampton in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), as well as Surrey and Abbotsford in British Columbia. This latest arrest comes after three other individuals were taken into custody on May 3 in Edmonton, Alberta.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) disclosed that Amandeep Singh was already in the custody of the Peel Regional Police in Ontario on unrelated charges related to firearms possession. Following a thorough investigation, the BC Prosecution Service has charged Amandeep Singh with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with Nijjar’s death. Superintendent Mandeep Mooker, the officer in charge of IHIT, emphasized the ongoing efforts to bring justice to those involved in the homicide.

In collaboration with the Abbotsford Police Department and the Central Region detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Ontario, IHIT successfully mitigated a significant public safety risk associated with Amandeep Singh. The three other individuals previously arrested, Karan Brar, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karanpreet Singh, all residents of Edmonton, are facing similar charges and appeared before a British Columbia provincial court in Surrey.

Amandeep Singh was initially apprehended in November 2023 on multiple charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance, alongside four other individuals. While Canadian investigators have not officially implicated the Indian Government in the murder case, there have been insinuations of potential connections during ongoing investigations, as mentioned by Assistant Commissioner David Teboul and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The incident, which occurred on June 18 in Surrey, British Columbia, caused tension in India-Canada relations following Trudeau’s remarks in the House of Commons.

India’s High Commissioner to Ottawa, Sanjay Kumar Verma, has characterized the arrests as an internal matter for Canada. The investigation into Nijjar’s death continues to unfold, with authorities striving to bring those responsible to justice..
