LUCIE, Fla. – In a shocking turn of events, Port St. Lucie police officers successfully apprehended a suspect involved in a distressing shooting incident that took place on the evening of May 10. The incident unfolded at around 11:15 p.m. in the 1800 block of SE Elrose St., where an adult female fell victim to a brutal attack, suffering five gunshot wounds at the hands of a family member.

The 70-year-old victim displayed remarkable resilience by managing to flee to a neighbour’s residence for safety immediately after the harrowing assault. She was swiftly transported to Lawnwood Hospital for urgent medical attention and is currently in a stable condition, thankfully with non-life-threatening injuries.

Upon receiving the distress call, the dedicated officers of the Port St. Lucie Police Department sprang into action, swiftly converging on the suspect’s location to establish a secure perimeter. The situation demanded the expertise of the SWAT team, Crisis Negotiation Team, and drone operators, who promptly responded to the scene. Utilising their state-of-the-art resources, including the powerful loudspeaker system of the armored Terradyne, the SWAT team initiated negotiations with the suspect, identified as 71-year-old Tarrant West.

In a remarkable display of professionalism and restraint, Tarrant West voluntarily surrendered to the authorities without any resistance. He was promptly taken into custody by law enforcement officers and is now facing serious charges related to the incident. The PSLPD Major Crimes Unit assumed control of the investigation, leading to Tarrant West’s arrest on charges of attempted homicide, five counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, and simple battery (domestic violence).

Tarrant West is currently detained in the St. Lucie County Jail, awaiting his initial court appearance where he will be held accountable for his alleged actions.
