DOS PALOS, Calif. – Fatal Canal Crash Claims Life of 26-Year-Old Driver
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a tragic canal crash in Dos Palos as 26-year-old Robert Monreal. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning near Russell and Althea Avenues.
Authorities were alerted to the crash around 2:40 a.m. after a witness reported seeing a vehicle plunge into a water-filled canal while travelling southbound on Russell Avenue. Tragically, Monreal, who was the sole occupant of the sedan, did not survive the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. At this time, it is unclear what caused the vehicle to veer off the road and into the canal.
