Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A 51-year-old woman has been arrested by Jeevan Beema Nagar police in Bengaluru for allegedly strangulating a transwoman following a quarrel. The incident is said to have taken place in the first week of May in Murugeshpalya on Old Airport Road.

The accused, identified as Prema, is a resident of Murugeshpalya and hails from Channarayapatna in Hassan district. Prema works as a domestic help in the area. The victim, Mangi Nayaka, also known as Mangi Bhai, was a transwoman who lived in Murugeshpalya.

According to the police, Prema had been living with Mangi ever since she lost her husband over two decades ago. However, the two women often got into arguments, particularly over financial matters. On a fateful day between May 1 and 3, Mangi, who was reportedly intoxicated, got into a heated altercation with Prema and even attempted to attack her with a knife. In what Prema claims was an act of self-defense, she allegedly strangled Mangi with a towel before fleeing the scene.

Mangi’s associates raised the alarm when they couldn’t reach her for two days. Upon entering her residence on May 3, they discovered her decomposed body and contacted the authorities. Initially, the police treated the case as an unnatural death. However, a postmortem examination revealed that Mangi had died due to compression on her neck bone.

After questioning neighbours and gathering evidence, the police zeroed in on Prema as the prime suspect. She was subsequently apprehended on May 8 in her village and charged with murder.
