Human Remains Found in Cumbria Woodland Identified as Missing Man

Following an extensive investigation, police have confirmed that the human remains discovered in woodland in Cumbria belong to Paul Taylor, a 56-year-old man from Annan in Dumfries and Galloway. His disappearance in October 2023 sparked a murder inquiry.

Paul Taylor was last seen on 17 October 2023, and his Vauxhall Corsa was traced to Carlisle that same evening. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Langwathby, Cumbria, two days after his disappearance, leading to the launch of a murder inquiry by Cumbria Constabulary.

Earlier this month, suspected human remains were discovered in the Finglandrigg Wood area, located off the B5307 west of Carlisle. Following forensic analysis, detectives have confirmed that the remains are those of Mr Taylor, and his family has been notified.

The investigation is ongoing, and there will be a continued police presence at the scene in Finglandrigg Wood. Authorities have advised the public to avoid the area to allow officers to conduct their work effectively.

Two teenagers have been charged in connection with the case. In February, a 19-year-old man appeared in court charged with murder, while a second 19-year-old man was later charged with assisting an offender.
