A chaotic morning unfolded in Milledgeville as two unrelated vehicle collisions occurred at the intersection of Ga. Route 49 and the West U.S. Highway 441 bypass. The incidents left three people injured, according to local authorities.
The first crash took place around 7 a.m. involving a 2005 Nissan Titan pickup truck driven by Alvin Burke, 53, of Milledgeville, and a 1994 Chevrolet driven by Charlie Lee, 49, of Toomsboro. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this collision. Milledgeville Police Officer Brandon Adams stated that the accident occurred when Burke attempted to exit the Friendly Gus parking lot and collided with Lee’s vehicle while merging onto Ga. Route 49.
Shortly after the initial crash, a second collision occurred at 7:35 a.m. between an SUV and a car, resulting in injuries to three individuals. The SUV, a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, was driven by Nikela Hunter, 41, of Milledgeville, while the car, a 2013 Ford Edge, was driven by Brittany Thorton, 33, also from Milledgeville. Passenger Traconal Clayton, 40, of Sandersville, was also reportedly injured in the incident. Fortunately, a 9-year-old boy in Hunter’s SUV escaped unharmed.
Emergency responders from Milledgeville Fire Rescue Services and Atrium Health Navicent Emergency Medical Services provided immediate medical assistance at the scene before transporting the injured parties to Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin hospital for further treatment.
According to Milledgeville Police Officer Alex Rickey, the second collision occurred when Thornton, heading south on the bypass, collided with Hunter, who was attempting to make a left turn onto Ga. 49. The impact resulted in injuries to the passengers and drivers involved in the accident.
The authorities are conducting investigations into both incidents to determine the exact cause of the collisions and ensure the safety of all road users in the future.
