Kashaan Parks, 39, was named as the suspect nine days after the brutal attack in the South Bronx, where the victim was roped around her neck with a belt before being sexually assaulted.
Despite photos on social media showing Parks as a loving father and partner, often playing with his toddler or smiling with his partner, his alleged actions have shocked the community.
The incident took place near East 152nd Street and Third Avenue around 3 a.m., when Parks allegedly crept up behind the 45-year-old victim. According to the NYPD, he placed a belt around the victim’s neck, causing her to go unconscious, before sexually assaulting her.
Identification and Arrest
A video circulating online shows a man believed to be Parks being apprehended by officers with the help of bystanders who pointed him out to authorities. While an official arrest has not been made, NYPD sources suggest that Parks may turn himself in.
Surveillance footage of the incident has gained traction on social media, but police were not immediately made aware of the situation as the victim did not report it. It wasn’t until the victim was arrested for petty larceny that officers discovered the assault. She cooperated with authorities and identified Parks as her attacker.
