A young man from Chicago is facing serious legal consequences after causing a fatal DUI crash that resulted in the death of his passenger, according to local police reports.
Jaime Torres Jr., a 20-year-old resident of Chicago Lawn, has been charged with two felony counts and a misdemeanor following the tragic incident. The charges include one felony count of reckless homicide with a motor vehicle, one felony count of aggravated DUI/accident/death, and a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, Torres received citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failing to reduce speed.
The fatal crash occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning on the 3100 block of North Lake Shore Drive. Torres reportedly swerved to avoid colliding with another vehicle, causing him to hit a curb and crash into a light pole.
The passenger in Torres’ vehicle, identified as 25-year-old Jorge A. Castillo from DesPlaines, tragically lost his life as a result of the crash. He was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital following the incident.
After the crash, Torres was also taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries and was subsequently arrested by law enforcement officers. He is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing on Saturday to determine his legal status moving forward.
