Authorities in New Iberia were faced with a major security operation on Friday morning after a routine response to a vehicle crash escalated into a concerning discovery of explosives. The incident unfolded near the Teche Motel on Fontelieu Drive, just off East Main Street, according to a report by KLFY News 10.

Shortly before 7 a.m., officers from the New Iberia Police Department were called to the scene where they found a vehicle that had crashed into a ditch. The driver, identified as 38-year-old Beau Broussard, was arrested after a search of his car revealed multiple firearms and narcotics.

The investigation took a serious turn when police obtained search warrants for two rooms at the Teche Motel, although no additional contraband was found there. Attention then shifted to two adjacent homes, one of which belonged to Broussard. It was in one of these residences that suspected homemade explosive devices were discovered, prompting an immediate evacuation of the area.

Specialists from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with Louisiana State Police, worked tirelessly into the night to safely remove the explosives. By 8 p.m., additional devices were found and neutralized, ensuring the safety of the community.
