A 61-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection to the tragic shooting death of a man in Aiken, South Carolina. Vance Mack Fleming, 61, was arrested on the scene and is currently being held at the Aiken County Detention Center. He is awaiting the issuance of an arrest warrant for charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, as stated in a news release from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident took place just before 7 p.m. on Thursday, when Aiken County deputies responded to a call in the 1400 block of Sparkleberry Lane. Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive man identified as William J. Collins, 56, of Aiken, who had sustained a gunshot wound to his head. Tragically, Collins was pronounced dead at the scene. His body is set to undergo an autopsy in Newberry, South Carolina, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

This shocking event has left the local community in mourning as they come to terms with the loss of a valued member. The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, in an effort to bring justice to the victim and his loved ones.
