St. Louis police officers were forced to shoot and kill a gunman who had just shot another man on a street near City Hall on Friday morning. The incident took place at 14th and Market streets around 7:30 a.m.

The officer who fired the fatal shot intervened in the assault after witnessing the gunman chasing and shooting at another man. Fortunately, no police officers were injured during the incident.

According to the St. Louis Police Department, the officer happened to be in the area and saw the attack unfold. The officer acted swiftly, shooting the gunman, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The man who was chased and shot by the gunman was conscious and breathing when medics arrived and was taken away by ambulance for treatment.

As a result of the police investigation, Market Street has been closed between 14th Street and Tucker Boulevard. The authorities are urging the public to avoid the area until the investigation is complete.
