Surveillance footage captured two girls engaged in a physical altercation, which culminated in the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Sara Rivera. The altercation reportedly occurred following a visit to a local Wendy’s restaurant.
According to prosecutors, the 15-year-old suspect allegedly stabbed Rivera before attempting to flee the scene. When a bystander intervened, the suspect allegedly brandished the knife in a threatening manner. Upon the arrival of law enforcement officers, Rivera was found critically injured on the sidewalk and later succumbed to her injuries at a nearby hospital.
The victim’s boyfriend revealed to CBS New York that the suspect was a classmate and friend of Rivera. The accused has been charged with murder, with prosecutors considering adding an attempted murder charge for the incident involving the bystander.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in court again on May 14 for further proceedings.
