A man has been taken into custody on numerous felony charges following a dramatic incident at the Red Bluff Inn in California. The Red Bluff police department reported that the suspect crashed into one of the rooms at the inn before fleeing the scene.
Multiple calls were made to the Red Bluff Police Dispatch Center around 3:30 p.m. alerting them to the crash at the Red Bluff Inn on Main Street. Witnesses informed the authorities that the individual responsible for the crash had absconded from the site.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers located the suspect a few blocks away from the crash site. The man, identified as 25-year-old Ryker Kay from Oregon, put up a struggle when officers attempted to apprehend him, even resorting to kicking one of them.
Due to the suspect’s combative behaviour, the police had to deploy K-9 Max to assist in detaining Kay. The K-9 unit successfully aided the officers in subduing the suspect, allowing them to place him in handcuffs.
Kay’s Medical Treatment
Ryker Kay was subsequently transported to a local hospital for several reasons, including treatment for injuries sustained during the crash, medical clearance, evaluation for intoxication, and to address a minor injury sustained during his arrest.
An investigation revealed that Kay had been involved in a dispute with a woman in the River Park parking lot. Following the altercation, Kay entered his 2002 Chevy S-10 truck and drove out of the parking area. However, he lost control of the vehicle while crossing Main Street, resulting in the collision with the Red Bluff Inn.
Impact of the Crash
The collision caused significant damage to two buildings and resulted in injuries to one individual. The victim, who was in a room at the time of the crash, was struck by debris as Kay’s truck ploughed through the inn.
The injured party was subsequently transported to the hospital via ambulance for treatment of their injuries sustained during the incident.
Charges Faced by Kay
While the investigation is ongoing, Ryker Kay will be facing a range of charges, including felony DUI with injury, felony Hit and Run with Injury, felony resisting a peace officer, misdemeanor battery on a peace officer or medical personnel, and misdemeanor domestic battery.
