In a disturbing turn of events in Kodagu, Karnataka, a 16-year-old girl named Meena was brutally beheaded by a 32-year-old man after the decision to postpone their marriage was made due to her age. The accused, identified as Prakash, fled the scene with the victim’s decapitated head, leaving the police to search for him.
Mutual Decision to Postpone Marriage
Meena, the youngest of six siblings in her family, was set to be engaged to Prakash on May 9th. However, the news of their impending marriage reached authorities through the Child Helpline, prompting them to intervene. Officials visited Meena’s home in Surlabbi village and explained the legal consequences of marrying a minor under the POCSO Act and Child Marriage Act. Consequently, both families agreed to postpone the marriage until Meena reached the legal age of 18.
Tragic Turn of Events
Despite the mutually agreed-upon decision to delay the marriage, tragedy struck the family on Thursday evening. Prakash forcibly entered Meena’s home, attacking her parents and dragging her outside before committing the heinous act. Meena’s father and mother sustained injuries during the attack and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Following the horrific incident, the police have registered a case against Prakash under Sections 307 (attempted murder) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, along with relevant sections of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act.
