The Killeen Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into a tragic car accident that resulted in the loss of one individual’s life early on Friday morning.
Details of the Incident
On the morning of May 10th, at approximately 5:50 a.m., authorities received a distressing call regarding a collision in the 12300 block of State Highway 195. Responding promptly, officers arrived at the scene to find a semi-truck trailer and a black sedan at the intersection.
Initial findings from the ongoing investigation suggest that the semi-truck trailer had come to a halt at a yield sign, facing westbound within the intersection of the north and southbound lanes. It was attempting to execute a left turn onto State Highway 195, with its trailer obstructing the northbound turn-lane and inside lanes.
Tragically, a black Nissan sedan travelling northbound in the inside lane collided with the back-left section of the trailer. The impact of the crash caused severe injuries to the driver of the sedan, identified as 30-year-old Karelys Almeda Sola. She was promptly rushed to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center for urgent medical attention.
Fatal Outcome
Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, Sola’s injuries proved to be fatal, and she tragically passed away at 6:49 a.m. The authorities have since informed her next of kin about the heartbreaking loss.
Fortunately, the driver of the semi-truck involved in the collision did not sustain any injuries as a result of the incident.
