New Delhi, 10th May: A 28-year-old man, identified as Jitender Gautam, a resident of Khera Khurd village in Delhi, was apprehended for allegedly touching inappropriately and molesting a minor boy in the Delhi Metro, according to a police official.
The incident occurred on May 3 when the minor boy, while travelling by metro to his residence, was molested by the accused. The victim reported that as he reached the Rajiv Chowk Metro station, the accused started touching his hip with his finger while boarding the train.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) R.G. Naik stated, “The complainant thought it would have happened by mistake but the accused continuously molested the minor until he reached the Kashmere Gate Metro station. Subsequently, the case was registered at the Rajiv Chowk Metro police station, and the investigation into the matter has been initiated.”
As part of the investigation, CCTV footage from 15 metro stations, spanning from Rajiv Chowk to Jahangir Puri Metro station, was thoroughly examined to identify the accused. It was observed that the accused disembarked at Jahangir Puri Metro station. Further inquiry revealed that he had boarded the metro from Kaushambi Metro station.
“Teams were dispatched to Jahangir Puri and Kaushambi Metro stations to establish the identity and whereabouts of the accused,” Naik explained. The CCTV footage near Kaushambi Metro station revealed the accused using a service road after alighting from the station.
“After making inquiries with shopkeepers, guards, and locals by showing a photograph of the accused, Jitender Gautam was eventually apprehended,” Naik added.
The accused has been taken into custody, and legal proceedings are underway. The Delhi Metro authorities have also pledged to enhance security measures to ensure the safety of passengers, especially minors, while using the metro system.
