PUNXSUTAWNEY BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) — Authorities have arrested a Punxsutawney man after he allegedly stabbed another man with a screwdriver in a Punxsutawney Borough apartment building.

Bradley James Heitzenrater, a 34-year-old resident of Punxsutawney, is currently in custody following the incident, which took place in the 200 block of North Jefferson Street in Punxsutawney Borough, Jefferson County.

According to court documents, the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department received a report at around 10:19 p.m. on Friday, May 3, regarding a male victim who had been stabbed at the apartment building. Witnesses reported that the suspect, wearing a plaid shirt, was seen heading towards Shop’n Save. The police located the suspect on Mill Alley near Torrence Street and identified him as Bradley Heitzenrater.

Upon apprehending Heitzenrater, officers observed that he displayed signs of impairment, including slurred speech, unsteady gait, and bloodshot eyes. Heitzenrater was read his rights and placed in custody, where he made concerning statements about wanting to harm the victim, although he claimed he would not actually go through with it.

Further investigation revealed that two female witnesses had heard Heitzenrater discussing killing a person and admitting to stabbing the victim with a screwdriver in an apartment. The victim sustained two stab wounds, one on his shoulder and another on his chest, and was treated by Jefferson County EMS.

Witnesses at the scene reported that Heitzenrater had initiated a confrontation with the victim, during which he grabbed a screwdriver and attacked the victim. The altercation was only halted when another individual intervened and separated the two men.

Heitzenrater was arraigned on multiple charges, including Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Terroristic Threats, Disorderly Conduct, and Public Drunkenness. Due to the seriousness of the charges, he was unable to post bail and was remanded to the Jefferson County Jail.

A preliminary hearing for Bradley James Heitzenrater is scheduled for Thursday, May 16, at 10:30 a.m. before Judge Jacqueline Mizerock.
