Asha Marie Abdou, 40, Indianapolis

An Indianapolis woman, Asha Marie Abdou, 40, residing on the 900 block of Hardin Boulevard, is facing multiple serious felony charges following a violent incident that occurred in late April.

Abdou has been arrested and charged with a Level 3 felony count of criminal confinement while armed with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony count of domestic battery with bodily injury on a pregnant woman, a Level 5 felony count of domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony count of confinement, and a Level 6 felony count of domestic battery-prior from an incident on April 30.

During an initial appearance in Hancock County Superior Court 1, Judge D.J. Davis set a $12,000 cash bond and imposed a no-contact order. Abdou entered a plea of not guilty and expressed her intention to hire her own attorney. She is scheduled to appear in court for a pretrial conference on Wednesday, May 29.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the incident unfolded when officials from the McCordsville Police Department responded to a call at a West Fox Chase Lane apartment around 2 a.m. on April 30. The caller, later identified as the victim, reported that a relative, Abdou, was intoxicated and under the influence of cocaine.

The victim informed dispatch that Abdou had attacked her, resulting in a stabbing incident. Upon police arrival, Abdou was taken into custody, and the victim showed officials a small laceration in the small of her back, which officials determined was consistent with being stabbed with the tip of a knife.

The victim, who was seven weeks pregnant, stated that despite her attempts to leave the situation when it escalated, Abdou prevented her from doing so by hitting her and blocking her exit. The victim expressed fear for her life and mentioned that Abdou’s behaviour indicated she was under the influence of narcotics.

Officials observed a glass smoking pipe with burnt residue in the sink, indicating the possible ingestion of crack cocaine. Abdou’s intoxicated state and difficulty in understanding questions further supported the suspicion of drug use.

The victim was treated at the scene for her injuries, and Abdou now faces the legal consequences of her alleged actions. The case highlights the serious nature of domestic violence and the importance of seeking help and protection when faced with such situations.
