INDIANAPOLIS — Court documents have revealed shocking details about a fatal road rage shooting on Indianapolis’ southside that resulted in the tragic death of 35-year-old Ryan Hawkins. The incident involved suspect Andre Briski, 24, of Indianapolis, who has been charged with murder, and Shawna Rowland, 23, of Greenwood, who is facing charges of assisting a criminal and obstruction of justice.

Tragic Circumstances Unfold

According to reports from WISH-TV, Hawkins, who was deaf, was allegedly attempting to escape from another vehicle when the shooting took place. Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears expressed his dismay at the situation, calling it an unacceptable escalation of violence on the roadways.

The incident occurred on May 1, when Indiana State Police began receiving reports of a road rage incident on Interstate 65 near the 101.2-mile marker. The situation escalated, leading to a serious vehicle crash on I-65 northbound, resulting in Hawkins losing his life from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Details Unveiled in Court Documents

Court documents filed on Thursday shed light on the events leading up to the shooting. Briski and Rowland were travelling with two others when the altercation occurred. Witnesses stated that Briski fired shots at Hawkins following a series of aggressive gestures from the other vehicle. Despite attempts to dissuade him, Briski proceeded to shoot at Hawkins, causing his vehicle to crash into a pond.

After the shooting, Rowland allegedly assisted in concealing evidence by removing stickers from the vehicle in an attempt to alter its appearance. She later turned herself in to authorities, while Briski checked himself into a medical facility before being taken into custody.

Confessions and Contradictions

During police interviews, Briski admitted to the shooting, claiming he acted in self-defence to protect himself and his companions. However, discrepancies arose when eyewitnesses contradicted his version of events. Text messages between Briski and Rowland discussing altering the vehicle post-shooting further raised suspicions of attempted cover-up.

The tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of road rage and the importance of maintaining composure in heated situations. The legal proceedings surrounding the case are ongoing as authorities work to bring justice to the victim and his family.
