An 18-year-old man who was tragically killed in a rollover crash on state Route 163 last weekend has been identified as Tyjuan Rashone Mayfield, an active duty U.S. sailor stationed at Naval Air Station North Island, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The fatal collision occurred in the early hours of Sunday, around 4:05 a.m., on southbound SR-163, just north of Friars Road, as reported by the California Highway Patrol.
Mayfield, a resident of Perris, California, was behind the wheel of a Nissan Maxima when the vehicle veered off the roadway, traveled up an embankment, and collided with a tree, authorities stated.
The impact of the crash caused the car to overturn, ultimately ejecting Mayfield from the vehicle. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene, with no other individuals involved in the incident.
Following the crash, all traffic lanes on southbound SR-163, north of Friars Road, were temporarily closed as authorities conducted their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
