Accident – Death – Obituary News : California authorities have apprehended a man for allegedly fabricating a report about his missing granddaughter, as he had actually left her in the care of a homeless woman so he could frequent a bar.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in the parking lot of a bar in Sacramento on Monday evening, where a man claimed that his 7-year-old granddaughter had been abducted for human trafficking.

The man, identified as 54-year-old Jason Warren, was found to be severely intoxicated by law enforcement officers. He confessed to paying a homeless woman to take his granddaughter to a thrift store while he spent approximately four hours at a bar.

Surveillance footage captured the homeless woman departing with the child. She eventually returned the girl to the parking lot after hearing a helicopter announcement about the search.

The homeless woman, identified as Lauren Jope, disclosed that Warren had paid her $20 to take the child to the thrift store. Concerned about Warren’s state of intoxication, she opted to take the girl to her camp for sustenance.

In an interview with KXTV-TV, Jope recounted the moment when Warren approached her on the street, requesting her to accompany his daughter to purchase shorts.

The 7-year-old girl corroborated the homeless woman’s account, displaying no signs of distress. She was also medically assessed and found to be in good health.

Further investigations revealed that the girl’s aunt held full custody but had left her with the grandfather due to work commitments. Subsequently, custody of the child was relinquished to the aunt.

Reflecting on the incident, Jope expressed relief at being present to intervene, emphasizing the potential dangers faced by the child if left in the care of an irresponsible individual.

Warren was taken into custody and charged with felony child endangerment, in addition to other offenses. He is currently detained at the Sacramento County Main Jail on a $75,000 bail.

The developments in this case underscore the importance of responsible guardianship and the risks associated with neglectful behaviour towards children..
