Culver City Police responded to multiple calls for assistance on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at 2:45 p.m., concerning a disturbance in the parking lot of the 6100 block of Slauson Avenue. Officers arrived at the scene to discover a female adult victim who had sustained multiple stab wounds. Immediate medical attention was administered to the victim on-site before she was transported to the hospital for further treatment. Fortunately, she has since been discharged.
The suspect, identified as Jorge Arnoldo Vasquez, a thirty-five-year-old Hispanic male with an undisclosed city of residence, was apprehended shortly after the incident. He was found hiding in bushes at Cougar Park, in close proximity to where the attack took place.
Initial findings from the investigation suggest that Vasquez approached the victim in the parking lot outside a retail establishment at 6100 Slauson Avenue. Allegedly, he launched a violent assault, stabbing the woman multiple times. The victim was able to disarm Vasquez and flee, prompting him to escape on foot.
After initially providing false identification to law enforcement, Vasquez was arrested and taken into custody at the Culver City Police Department Jail. He now faces charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and providing false identification to a peace officer. Bail has been set at two million dollars.
