The Birmingham Police Department has made an arrest in connection with an ongoing investigation into a series of robberies and sexual assaults in the West Birmingham area. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Christian Jerel Thomas of Birmingham, was taken into custody on Tuesday, April 30.
Investigation Details
The investigation into the case began in February 2024 when police received a report of a victim who had been robbed and sexually assaulted. Subsequently, in April, the Special Victims Unit detectives looked into three additional cases involving three victims who reported similar incidents in the same area.
After thorough investigation, the police were able to identify Thomas as a suspect in all four cases. The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the evidence and approved multiple charges against Thomas, including one count of 1st degree kidnapping, four counts of 1st degree robbery, two counts of 1st degree rape, and six counts of 1st degree sodomy.
Legal Proceedings
Thomas is currently being held at the Jefferson County Jail without bond. The Birmingham Police Department and the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office have urged any other potential victims to come forward and provide information.
