According to reports from the Claiborne County sheriff, the fatal incident occurred in the Lone Mountain area when a tree fell onto the car that Hentnick was travelling in, causing his untimely death.
The devastating impact of the storms was felt not only in Claiborne County but also across the South, as severe weather continued to wreak havoc on Thursday morning. The region was battered by tornadoes, torrential rain, and large hail, leading to multiple casualties.
The Associated Press has confirmed that at least three individuals, including Hentnick, have lost their lives as a result of the severe weather conditions. In addition to the tragedy in Claiborne County, another person was killed in Columbia, Tennessee, where officials believe a tornado may have touched down.
Prior to the recent storms in Tennessee, parts of the central United States experienced their own share of severe weather earlier in the week. A tornado tore through an Oklahoma town on Monday, claiming the life of one person. Subsequent tornadoes were reported in various Midwestern states, including Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana, on Tuesday.
The severe weather patterns observed this week come on the heels of a stormy April, during which a total of 300 tornadoes were confirmed across the United States. This figure marks the second-highest number of tornadoes recorded for the month of April, underscoring the heightened risk of severe weather events in the region.
