Tragedy struck once again at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) as another infant lost the battle against swine flu on Tuesday. The four-month-old boy, identified as Arman Hussain Laskar, was admitted to SMCH on April 13 with symptoms of pneumonia. Subsequent tests confirmed that he had also contracted the swine flu virus.

Joint director of health (Cachar), Dr Asutosh Barman, confirmed the infant’s untimely demise, stating, “The boy passed away on Tuesday morning. Two other children who are also being treated for swine flu at the hospital hail from Uttar Krishnapur and Dudhpatil in Cachar district, both located in Barak Valley. The deceased boy was also from Uttar Krishnapur.”

This unfortunate incident comes less than a week after a 15-month-old girl succumbed to swine flu in Hailakandi district, also situated in Barak Valley. Following these tragic events, the health department has issued a high alert and initiated an investigation into the spread of the H1N1 virus in the region.

Paramedical staff and ASHA workers have been instructed to conduct door-to-door surveys to identify and contain any potential outbreaks of swine flu. The community is urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent the further spread of the virus.
