Accident – Death – Obituary News :

(LONDON) — A shocking incident unfolded at a church in Pennsylvania on Sunday, resulting in a man being charged with homicide after his cousin was found shot to death, according to the Allegheny County Police.

Bernard Junior Polite, 26, was taken into custody after he allegedly brandished a gun and attempted to shoot Rev. Glenn Germany during a sermon at the Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in the Pittsburgh suburb of North Braddock.

The dramatic events were captured on a livestream, showing Polite being subdued by a church deacon after his firearm malfunctioned.

Following Polite’s arrest, the lifeless body of a 56-year-old man named Derek Polite was discovered with fatal gunshot wounds in the suspect’s residence, authorities revealed.

Charges and Investigation

Law enforcement officials announced on Tuesday that the suspect had been formally charged with homicide in connection to the death of his cousin.

Witnesses who were interviewed by detectives reported seeing Polite “acting erratically outside the residence” on the morning of the church incident. A neighbour also claimed to have heard a suspicious noise that could have been a gunshot.

Polite is currently being held in custody pending his arraignment as the investigation continues.

Confession and Motive

According to a criminal complaint, Polite allegedly confessed to intending to kill the pastor, stating that he was instructed by “God” to carry out the act.

Rev. Glenn Germany, in an interview with ABC News’ Good Morning America, described the harrowing ordeal as a “miracle” that he survived the attempted shooting.

“He pulled the trigger, and by the grace of God, the gun jammed. It was a true miracle that I am still here today,” Germany recounted.

Heroic Intervention

Germany recalled seeing Polite enter the church with a smile on his face before approaching the pulpit and pointing the weapon at him. The timely intervention of deacon Clarence McCallister, who tackled Polite, allowed Germany to seek cover behind a podium.

McCallister, speaking to GMA, described his actions as instinctual, saying, “I just reacted and managed to disarm him before anyone was hurt.”

Germany commended McCallister’s bravery, labelling it as “an act of heroism that saved lives.”
