SANGER, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Sanger Police Department has officially named the suspect who they allege fatally stabbed his father in Sanger early Wednesday morning.
Law enforcement officers were alerted to a distressing situation at a gas station located at 850 Academy Avenue in Sanger. The call reported a man spending an unusually long time in the restroom without responding to staff attempts to communicate with him.
Upon arrival at the gas station, officers from the Sanger Police Department took decisive action by entering the restroom forcibly. Inside, they encountered a man whose attire was visibly stained with blood.
In a chilling admission, the man confessed to the officers that he had committed the heinous act of killing his own father.
The suspect has been identified as 46-year-old Gilbert Canales.
Subsequent to the unsettling discovery at the gas station, officers proceeded to the 1800 block of Diamond Avenue. This was the address provided by Canales, where they found a man lying on the floor.
After gaining entry to the residence, law enforcement officers found the victim with multiple stab wounds. Tragically, the victim, identified as 80-year-old Roel Canales, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gilbert Canales was taken into custody on suspicion of homicide. Investigators are currently working to establish a motive behind this appalling incident.
