SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A musician from North Carolina, Eric Travers, who disappeared in San Francisco after auditioning for a band, has been located and taken into custody. Travers, aged 30, had traveled to San Francisco last week for the audition and to work on recording music, as reported by his friend to KRON4.

After several days of being unable to reach Travers, his family and friends grew increasingly concerned about his well-being. Missing his return flight home and leaving behind his epilepsy medication in his hotel room at Cathedral Hill Hotel in the Tenderloin were both uncharacteristic behaviours for the drummer, according to his brother and friend, Mikel Ross.

Travers was officially reported as a missing person to the San Francisco Police Department, and as of Monday, his whereabouts remained unknown.

However, on Tuesday, SFPD informed KRON4 that Travers had been apprehended by officers, although initially they were unaware that he was the individual reported missing.

According to the police report, Travers was taken into custody at 2:13 p.m. on May 2 on Shotwell Street. SFPD stated, “San Francisco Police officers from Mission Station responded to the area of 21st and Shotwell streets regarding a belligerent male subject throwing objects at vehicles and people.”

Upon arrival, officers detained Travers, who had been throwing large rocks at individuals and vehicles, causing damage to a nearby car. Travers was arrested on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism.

Initially providing a false name to the SFPD, Travers was later identified as the missing individual. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.

Travers’ brother disclosed on Tuesday that his brother had been discovered in Tenderloin “in a complete state of psychosis.”

On a GoFundMe page, Travers’ brother stated, “He is no longer missing, however he isn’t exactly well. He is under the care of professionals for the time being. It seems getting him stabilized is proving to be more difficult than usual when he has a break like this. We hope to get him some sort of professional diagnosis and help here and hopefully improve his quality of life.”

The brother expressed gratitude for the support received during this challenging period.
