Accident – Death – Obituary News : Ellie Shepherd has made history as the first female apprentice to take on a shopfloor role at Oldham-based Hill’s Panel Products. At just 17 years old, Ellie embarked on her level 2 furniture manufacturer apprenticeship at HPP, inspired by her older brother, Sam, who works as a cabinet maker.

Having left school with six GCSEs, Ellie initially faced skepticism about her decision to pursue a career in manufacturing. Some suggested she consider working in a chemist’s shop instead. Undeterred, Ellie remained focused on proving herself and excelling in her chosen field.

Recognizing Ellie’s talent and determination, HPP celebrated her as a “trailblazer” for women in the industry. She was even identified as one of 25 women across the UK ‘flying the flag’ for women at work for International Women’s Day.

Recently, Ellie’s hard work and dedication paid off as she was awarded a distinction in her apprenticeship. This achievement led to her securing a full-time role at HPP, where she contributes to the production of board, doors, components, and accessories for the fitted furniture industry.

John Barker, Ellie’s tutor from North Lancs Training Group, praised her exceptional performance. He highlighted her mastery of machinery, panel cutting, furniture assembly, and quality control. Ellie’s meticulous attention to detail, commitment to quality assurance, and efficiency in resource utilization were commended as key strengths.

Speaking about her success, Ellie expressed her love for her job and her desire to inspire other young women to pursue their dreams. She emphasized the importance of confidence and determination in overcoming obstacles and achieving goals.

Dan Mounsey, HPP’s marketing and business development director, shared his delight at Ellie’s progress and the positive impact she has made within the company. He praised her for earning the respect of her colleagues and achieving a well-deserved distinction.

Ellie’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of perseverance and self-belief in the face of challenges. Her success not only highlights her individual achievements but also paves the way for more women to thrive in traditionally male-dominated industries.
