Allegheny County police have announced criminal homicide charges in the tragic death of Derek Polite, who was found dead on Sunday at the residence of the man accused of shooting a North Braddock pastor. The authorities are currently piecing together a timeline of the events that transpired on that fateful day.
According to Allegheny Police Commissioner Christopher Kearns, it is believed that the shooting incident that claimed the life of Derek Polite took place around 10 a.m., prior to the unsettling incident that occurred later that afternoon at a church in North Braddock.
The shocking incident at the church, which was captured on video and quickly went viral, involved a man identified as 26-year-old Bernard Polite, who disrupted a church service by brandishing a gun at the pastor of Jesus’ Dwelling Place on Lobringer Avenue. The disturbing footage prompted Derek Polite’s family to visit the shared residence of the two men, where they discovered the tragic outcome of Bernard Polite firing a fatal shot.
Inspector Kearns revealed, “It appears that the victim was shot while ascending the stairs from the first floor to the second floor of the residence.”
Despite ongoing investigations, the authorities have yet to ascertain a motive behind the shooting. Additionally, the reason why Bernard Polite attempted to shoot Pastor Glenn Germany inside the church remains unknown. Pastor Germany recounted the chilling moment when he confronted Polite, who allegedly claimed that his actions were driven by impulsive thoughts.
Investigators have confirmed that the same firearm used in the death of Derek Polite was also used during the church incident.
