Florida man apprehended following Walmart altercation
A man from Florida has been taken into custody after authorities reported that he spat on a Walmart employee during a disagreement over a product return.
PALLM COAST, Fla. – A man with a criminal record who was recently captured on video using derogatory language and behaving aggressively towards a deputy after allegedly spitting on a Walmart staff member has shown no improvement in controlling his temper, as stated by the sheriff of Flagler County.
Law enforcement was summoned to a Palm Coast Walmart just before 6:45 p.m. on Friday to look into a battery allegation.
The deputy stated that he conversed with a Walmart worker who claimed to have been involved in a confrontation with a customer, later identified as 37-year-old Channing Cooks, when he attempted to return an item without a receipt.
The employee informed the investigator that Cooks lunged toward her and repeatedly spat in her face while shouting, ‘I have a cold!’

Investigators utilized the agency’s real-time crime center to trace Cooks’ vehicle to a CVS.
Deputies mentioned that Cooks informed them that the incident at Walmart was a misunderstanding, claiming that he unintentionally sneezed on the victim while discussing exchanging baby formula.

Following a review of surveillance footage from Walmart, authorities detained Cooks for battery. During the journey to the detention center, cameras captured him using explicit language and making racial remarks towards a deputy, although upon arrival, officials stated that he expressed remorse.

Cooks, who served a decade in prison after being convicted of armed robbery in Putnam County back in 2006, was arrested in 2018 for domestic battery and in 2019 for violating probation.
“This repeat offender has shown no inclination to manage his anger since his incarceration,” remarked Sheriff Rick Staly. “His violent actions escalated what should have been a simple conversation regarding a product return; instead, he spat in an employee’s face and continued to verbally attack a Deputy Sheriff en route to jail. He had the opportunity to calm down at the Green Roof Inn, but if he doesn’t learn to avoid conflicts, he’ll find himself incarcerated once more.”
