The Bellevue Police Department announced on Wednesday that a man connected to a sex trafficking incident had been apprehended following a thorough investigation lasting a month.

According to investigators, the distressing incident unfolded with a 21-year-old woman in Factoria.

In early April, law enforcement officers responded to a report of a domestic violence altercation in Factoria.

It was reported that vigilant construction workers aided the woman in exiting an apartment, and upon further investigation, officers detected several red flags indicative of sex trafficking, a fact that was corroborated by the victim.

Subsequently, the department’s human trafficking unit assumed jurisdiction over the case, discovering that the victim had been exploited not only in Washington but also in other states.

Following the acquisition of a search warrant for the suspect, identified as Cedric A. Dorsey, who had a history of prior arrests and was considered a high-risk individual with potential access to firearms, the police moved swiftly.

On May 2, Bellevue police, alongside a SWAT team, descended upon a residence off 124th Avenue Southeast. When Dorsey failed to comply with directives, the department’s crisis response team engaged in negotiations with his mother to persuade him to surrender.

After approximately an hour, Dorsey emerged from his apartment and submitted himself into custody.

He was subsequently arrested on charges of second-degree trafficking of persons, first-degree promotion of prostitution, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Andrew Popochock, Assistant Chief for the Bellevue Police Department, remarked, “From the Bellevue PD Officers quickly spotting the red flags associated with sex trafficking to the work of the Department’s Human Trafficking Unit, this collaborative operation was truly a textbook example on how to hold an individual accountable for conducting a horrible sex crime on another person. Sex trafficking is a crime and unfortunately does happen in communities like Bellevue. That’s why we’re asking the public that if they believe someone may be a victim in a sex trafficking operation to immediately call law enforcement so that we can hold these criminals accountable and save lives in the process.”

Those who suspect, know, or possess information regarding potential victims of exploitation are urged to contact the Bellevue Police Department’s Trafficking Unit at ViceHT@bellevuewa.gov.
