WYTHEVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — A teenager in Wytheville has been charged after allegedly pointing a replica gun at customers entering Sheetz on Tuesday morning, according to the Wytheville Police Department.

Incident Details

Reports came in around 7:40 a.m. on May 7, alerting officers to a man in a black Nissan SUV brandishing a firearm and aiming it at individuals entering the convenience store. Officers swiftly responded to the scene and located the suspected vehicle in the Walmart parking lot after conducting a thorough search of the area.

Suspect Identified

Upon further investigation, the driver was identified as 18-year-old Ayden Crue Elswick, a resident of Wytheville. Authorities discovered a Glock Replica airsoft pistol inside the SUV, with the police department emphasising that the replica weapon closely resembled a genuine Glock firearm when pointed at anyone.

Legal Consequences

Under the Virginia Code, it is considered a criminal offence to brandish a firearm or any object that may induce fear in others in a public setting. Elswick has been charged with 18.2-282 Brandishing a Firearm and was subsequently released on an unsecured bond.
