COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – The Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies have apprehended a man following a high-speed pursuit through Columbus that culminated in the suspect leaping off a bridge on the southeast side of the city.

Initial reports from deputies on the scene indicate that a sheriff identified a Jeep Compass, believed to be stolen, near the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Huy Road in North Linden. At approximately 3:45 a.m., the sheriff attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

The driver, later identified as 45-year-old Adam Garber, chose to evade the authorities and initiated a pursuit. The vehicle reportedly reached speeds of up to 100 MPH on Columbus interstates, with Garber eventually heading south on South Hamilton Road, passing Interstate 270 and Refugee Road.

At around 4:06 a.m., the pursuit came to a halt on South Hamilton Rd. near a bridge spanning Big Walnut Creek. Garber then exited the vehicle and jumped off the bridge into the water below.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office promptly enlisted the help of the Columbus Division of Police and the Columbus Fire Water and Rescue crews to locate the suspect. After a 30-minute search in the immediate area, Garber was sighted clinging to a tree branch near the creek’s bank. He was then assisted out of the water and taken into custody.

Medical personnel provided treatment to Garber at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

Garber faces charges of receiving stolen property and failure to comply. The incident, spanning nearly an hour and covering around 15 miles, is currently under investigation.

South Hamilton Road in the vicinity was closed for approximately two to three hours until around 7 a.m.
