Accident – Death – Obituary News :

CHARLESTON, S.C. (FOX Carolina/WCSC) – Authorities have announced that a second suspect has been apprehended in connection to a tragic hit-and-run incident in downtown Charleston that resulted in the deaths of two women from the Upstate.

According to WCSC, Seth Alan Gilbert William Carlson, 32, from Summerville, has been charged with two counts of reckless vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident that led to fatalities.

Law enforcement officials revealed that surveillance footage indicated that the two victims were hit by two separate vehicles. The first vehicle, driven by Carlson, struck the victims initially, followed by a second vehicle driven by Max David Gentilin.

Gentilin was apprehended last week on two counts of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and has since been released on bail, as confirmed by Gibson.

The hit-and-run incident occurred at 1:12 a.m. on April 28 near the on-ramp to the Ravenel Bridge, according to Gibson.

The Charleston Police Department received a report of two unresponsive victims near Morrison Drive between Harris Street and Cooper Street at 8:32 a.m. on April 28. The victims, identified as Lizzy Zito, 20, and Arianna Gamber, 20, both from Simpsonville, were pronounced dead at the scene by Chief Deputy Coroner Brittney Martin.

The presence of vehicle debris in close proximity to the victims and their location near the roadway prompted law enforcement to initiate a hit-and-run investigation. Initial findings at the scene revealed a damaged 2010 Acura TL, which was connected to Gentilin.

Surveillance footage obtained from the South Carolina Ports Authority depicted Carlson’s Chevrolet truck hitting the victims at 1:12 a.m. as they walked near the bike lane of Morrison Drive, before Gentilin’s vehicle struck them approximately 30 minutes later after veering off the road, as mentioned by Gibson.

The abandoned Chevrolet truck was later discovered in West Ashley after Carlson reportedly crashed into a ditch and fled the scene on foot.

Police Chief Chito Walker expressed his commitment to seeking justice for Lizzy and Arianna, stating that the tragic consequences of the two suspects’ actions have irreversibly impacted the victims’ families. He extended his sympathies and support to the bereaved families.

Carlson is currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center pending a bond hearing, with no mugshot available at the moment.

The bond court proceedings for Carlson are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The investigation remains ongoing, with additional charges anticipated. Individuals with relevant information are urged to contact the Charleston Police Department Traffic Unit at 843-965-4084 or Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry at 843-554-1111.
