A man has been taken into custody in Klaeng district, Rayong, following a heartbreaking incident at a shrimp farm that resulted in the death of a one-year-old child. The suspect, identified as Nutthapong, 36, was apprehended at the scene in an intoxicated and agitated state, according to Pol Capt Nutthakrit Konglord of the Klaeng police station.
The victim, a one-year-old boy, was the son of Mr Thongpipat, 26, who worked alongside the suspect at the farm. The child’s body was discovered in a pond on the premises, located near the workers’ cabins.
Mr Thongpipat recounted that he had entrusted his son to Nutthapong, a friend and colleague, while he briefly stepped away. Upon hearing his son cry, he assumed Nutthapong was caring for him. However, he soon realised something was amiss when he found his son missing and confronted the suspect.
Tragically, Nutthapong confessed to throwing the toddler into the pond, leading to the child’s untimely demise. Despite efforts to resuscitate the boy by a relative, he could not be revived.
Upon the arrival of law enforcement and medical personnel, Nutthapong exhibited signs of extreme intoxication, resisting arrest and causing a scene. He was subsequently taken to the Klaeng police station for drug testing.
This tragic incident has shocked the community in Rayong, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones affected by this devastating loss.
