A tragic incident occurred in Cumilla’s Chauddagram Upazila as a schoolboy was electrocuted while attempting to catch a glimpse of Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. The victim, identified as Nirab Hossain, is a 13-year-old seventh-grader at Dhorkara High School and was rushed to the burns unit of Cumilla Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

Details of the Accident

The incident took place at Dhorkara Bazar in the Upazila on a fateful Monday afternoon, according to Chauddagram Police Station chief Trinath Saha. Reports suggest that Shakib was present to inaugurate a showroom of Herlan Cosmetics in Dhorkara Bazar, drawing a large crowd eager to catch a glimpse of the cricket star.

Nirab, along with other onlookers, ventured to the first floor of the Malek Tower in the market to get a better view of Shakib. Unfortunately, Nirab came into contact with an exposed electric wire accidentally, resulting in severe burns.

Immediate Response and Medical Treatment

Local residents acted swiftly by disconnecting the power source and promptly taking Nirab to Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex. Due to the severity of his injuries, Nirab was later transferred to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

Dr. Rabiul Haque from the emergency department at the health complex stated, “Nirab was admitted in critical condition with approximately 40 percent burns on the right side of his chest. After administering initial treatment, he was transferred to Cumilla for advanced medical care.”
