A tragic incident unfolded in Wallingford on Monday evening as a man lost his life in a devastating rollover crash. The victim’s vehicle, a white 2007 Ford Econoline van, was reported to be travelling in the wrong direction on Church Street, near the intersection of Hope Hill Road, before the fatal collision occurred.
According to Officer Alex Torres of the Wallingford Police Department, the van veered off the road, striking a pedestrian crossing sign, before colliding with a utility pole at the intersection of Church Street and New Place Street. The impact caused tension on the wires, leading to a second pole snapping under the force of the crash.
Subsequently, the van careened onto the grounds of the United Methodist Church, where it ploughed through flower beds, hit a small tree, and collided with a log, causing the vehicle to flip onto its side. Miraculously, the van came to a halt just a mere two feet away from colliding with a residential property on Church Street.
Driver Fatality and Investigation
The driver of the van has been identified as 65-year-old Michael Beauvais of Wallingford. Following the crash, Beauvais was rushed to MidState Medical Center in Meriden, where he was tragically pronounced dead. Officer Torres revealed that the preliminary investigation indicated that Beauvais was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
In response to the incident, members of the Wallingford Police Department’s Traffic Division swiftly arrived at the scene to commence their investigation.
