In a shocking turn of events, a Pennsylvania pastor narrowly avoided a potentially life-threatening situation when a man approached him during his sermon and attempted to shoot him with a handgun. The incident, which unfolded at the Jesus Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock, was captured on the church’s Facebook livestream, adding to the intensity of the moment.

The pastor, identified as Glenn Germany, was in the midst of delivering his sermon when a 26-year-old man, Bernard Polite, made his way to the pulpit and aimed a gun at Germany. Fortunately, the weapon misfired, giving Germany a split second to take cover behind the pulpit.

The dramatic moment was captured on camera as a brave church member swiftly intervened, tackling the gunman to the ground. With the help of other members, the assailant was restrained, preventing any further harm.

Startled attendees heard Polite utter, “God told me to do it,” as he was being subdued by the pastor and other members. Following his arrest, Polite confessed to authorities that he had intended to shoot Germany and await apprehension as a way to “clear his head.”

Thankfully, the gun malfunctioned at the crucial moment, sparing Pastor Germany from harm. Reflecting on the incident, Germany expressed gratitude, stating, “I thank God because only God stopped and jammed this gun,” in an interview with Pittsburgh-based KDKA.

The Jesus Dwelling Place Church took to their Facebook page to reassure their congregation that despite the harrowing incident, no one was injured. They attributed their safety to divine intervention and expressed relief that Pastor Glenn was unharmed.

One of the social media posts shared by the church reads, “Pastor Glenn is doing fine and he says he is doing great and Blessed to be alive!”

Bernard Polite faces charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault. Bail was denied, and he has been remanded to Allegheny County Prison.
