Evan Murden : “Walmart Robbery Sparks High-Speed Chase and Assault in Windsor”

(KRON) – A dramatic high-speed chase unfolded in Windsor after a man and woman allegedly stole over £1,000 worth of merchandise from Walmart. The incident, detailed in a press release by the Windsor Police Department and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, left residents stunned.

Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies were quick to respond to reports of a robbery at the Windsor Walmart around 4 p.m. on Friday. Witnesses described a man and a woman loading a shopping cart with a significant amount of merchandise, amounting to a value of over £1,000.

The situation escalated when the woman exited the store and got into a waiting vehicle, while the man attempted to make a swift exit with the loaded shopping cart. A vigilant loss prevention officer intervened, halting the suspect’s escape. However, the situation took a violent turn when the suspect destroyed the officer’s phone and physically assaulted him while attempting to flee.

In a brazen move, the suspect managed to load the stolen merchandise into the vehicle and sped off with the woman in the passenger seat, leaving chaos in their wake.

The suspects were identified as 31-year-old Evan Murden and 33-year-old Destiny Turney by law enforcement officials.

Law enforcement officers swiftly located the suspects near Hembree Lane and initiated an enforcement stop. However, Murden, the male suspect, refused to comply and embarked on a reckless high-speed pursuit on Highway 101 in central Windsor, reaching speeds of up to 109 mph.

The pursuit came to a dramatic end when deputies managed to disable the suspect’s vehicle on Highway 101 at the Dry Creek off-ramp. Murden abandoned the car and attempted to flee on foot, leaving Turney behind.

Turney was swiftly apprehended and booked on charges of conspiracy, shoplifting, possession of a controlled substance, and an outstanding arrest warrant from San Mateo County. Despite being released on a citation, Turney’s involvement in the incident was thoroughly investigated.

A perimeter was established with the assistance of the Healdsburg Police Department in the search for Murden. The male suspect was eventually found hiding in an outdoor stairwell and taken into custody.

Murden faced charges of robbery, felony evading, vandalism, damaging a wireless device, and resisting arrest. He was promptly booked into the Sonoma County jail, with his bail set at £50,000.

Murden’s reckless actions during the high-speed chase and subsequent arrest highlight the dangers of criminal behaviour and the swift response of law enforcement in ensuring public safety.
