Two individuals lost their lives and three others sustained injuries following a tragic incident where a vehicle veered off the Capital Beltway and crashed into the woods in Prince George’s County on Tuesday afternoon.

Details of the Accident

At approximately 12:30 p.m., Maryland State Police received reports of a single-vehicle crash on the Outer Loop near exit 27. The driver, identified as 75-year-old Dorothy Skinner from Beltsville, was operating a Ford vehicle when she unfortunately lost control of the car. This resulted in the vehicle leaving the roadway and colliding with the trees lining the side of the road.

Tragically, a 14-year-old passenger named Loren Jones, a resident of Hyattsville, also lost their life in the crash. Additionally, three other individuals were injured in the accident and were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention. At present, their current medical conditions remain undisclosed.

Road Closure and Ongoing Investigation

Following the incident, the westbound lanes of I-495 were closed for a period of two hours to facilitate the investigation. Subsequently, the lanes have been reopened to traffic. However, police officers and emergency personnel are still present at the scene, urging motorists to exercise caution while passing through the area.
