Springfield man accused of vehicle break-in attempts

Springfield, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Authorities in Springfield are urging residents to ensure their car doors are securely locked following the arrest of a man over the weekend.
According to Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh, officers were called to a hotel on East Columbus Avenue on Saturday morning in response to reports of an individual attempting to break into vehicles. After receiving a description of the suspect, law enforcement located the individual near Main and Marble Streets shortly thereafter.
The suspect, who has been identified as 35-year-old Benny Carrasco of Springfield, was taken into custody on 19 counts of attempted burglary.
Walsh emphasised the importance of locking car doors, as Carrasco was unable to gain access to any of the vehicles due to them being properly secured.
