SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield police have apprehended a man suspected of being involved in nearly 20 vehicle break-in attempts.
According to Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, officers received a call on Saturday around 4:30 a.m. at a hotel on the 800 block of East Columbus Avenue regarding a man allegedly trying to break into vehicles.
After receiving a description of the suspect, police located him at the intersection of Main Street and Marble Street. The man, identified as 35-year-old Benny Carrasco of Springfield, was arrested.
It is alleged that Carrasco attempted to break into 19 vehicles in the parking lot. Fortunately, all of the vehicles were locked, and Carrasco was unable to gain access to any cars. Carrasco has been charged with 19 counts of attempting to commit a crime.
Springfield Police are reminding residents and visitors of the city to ensure their vehicles are locked to reduce the risk of vehicle theft.
