An East Bay resident, Antoinette Finau, tragically lost her life in a collision with an alleged drunk driver while on her way to work a night shift at the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday night in San Leandro.

The fatal incident occurred at around 11:15 pm at the intersection of East 14th Street and 150th Avenue in San Leandro. According to reports from KTVU via San Leandro police investigators, Finau’s vehicle was struck by an alleged drunk driver, causing it to overturn as it crossed the intersection.

Antoinette Finau, a 37-year-old emergency services dispatcher for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, was the victim of the collision. Described as a dedicated and loving member of the sheriff’s office, Finau took pride in her work and found great joy in helping others.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office expressed their sorrow in a social media post, stating, “Last night, we lost a dedicated, energetic, loving Alameda County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) family member.” The post highlighted Finau’s impact on the agency, noting her kind nature, warm smile, and commitment to assisting those in need.

The individual responsible for the collision has been identified as 32-year-old Lynette Jamae Davis. Davis has been arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

In response to the tragic loss, friends of Antoinette Finau have launched a GoFundMe campaign to support Finau’s 11-year-old daughter, Aliyana. Described as a devoted mother, Finau’s friends are rallying together to provide financial assistance for Aliyana’s future.

“Antoinette’s life revolved around her daughter’s well-being and ensuring a bright future for her,” stated friends Alicia Hartman and Tiffany Chan. “Despite her demanding role as a dispatcher, she excelled in supporting others during their most challenging times. With her sudden passing, we are uniting to offer financial aid for Aliyana’s future.”

The friends also emphasised the strong bond between Finau and her daughter, Aliyana, who will be turning 12 in June.
