A teenager from San Bernardino, aged 17, who was involved in a home invasion in Long Beach, has been identified as the suspect who was fatally shot by police, officials revealed on Monday.

The incident took place on the evening of April 26 on Cerritos Avenue in Long Beach. The suspect, armed with a replica firearm, broke into a residence and attempted to rob a teenager and two adults who were inside at the time, as reported by Long Beach police.

Following the arrival of law enforcement, the victims were safely evacuated from the property. Subsequently, a verbal de-escalation process with the suspect, who remained in the yard of the victim’s home, lasted for approximately an hour. Unfortunately, the situation escalated, leading to the suspect being shot by at least one officer, resulting in the suspect being taken to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities have stated that the California Attorney General’s office is conducting an investigation in accordance with the law that mandates a probe whenever an unarmed civilian is fatally shot by police.

During the course of their investigation, police were able to identify an accomplice to the home invasion. The accomplice, an 18-year-old male from Modesto, managed to flee the scene before the arrival of law enforcement. However, on May 1, he was apprehended on suspicion of robbery.
