Accident – Death – Obituary News : A shocking incident occurred in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district, where a 26-year-old woman allegedly threw her six-year-old disabled son into a crocodile-infested river following a quarrel with her husband. The tragic event took place in Halamadi village, Dandeli taluk, on Saturday night.
The woman, identified as Savitri, and her husband, Ravi Kumar, had frequent disagreements regarding their son Vinod’s hearing and speech impairment. Ravi Kumar, who is 36 years old, reportedly used to argue with Savitri, questioning why she gave birth to a mute child. On some occasions, he even went as far as telling her to “throw the child away,” as per police reports.
After a heated argument about their son’s disability on Saturday evening, Savitri, in a moment of frustration, threw her elder son into a waste canal connected to the crocodile-infested Kali river. The neighbors alerted the authorities, who, along with villagers and divers, initiated a search operation to rescue the child. Unfortunately, due to the darkness of the night, they were unable to locate the young boy.
Tragically, on Sunday morning, the partially devoured body of the six-year-old was recovered from the river, bearing numerous bite marks, with his right hand missing. The body was sent for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death. Savitri and Ravi Kumar, who work as house help and a mason helper respectively, have been arrested and charged with murder under IPC Section 302. They have been remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.
This heart-wrenching incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of empathy, understanding, and support for individuals with disabilities. The authorities are conducting further investigations into the matter to uncover the full details of this tragic event.
