CHENNAI: The scorching heatwave sweeping across Tamil Nadu has tragically claimed a life, with another individual currently receiving treatment for heatstroke. This marks the first fatality in Chennai this summer due to heat-related illnesses.
The victim, identified as Sachin, a 25-year-old construction worker from Uttar Pradesh, succumbed to a severe heatstroke while working at a construction site in Kancheepuram. Despite being rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH), Sachin tragically passed away, according to officials.
Details of the Incident
Dr E Theranirajan, the dean of Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, revealed that Sachin was a daily wage labourer at the construction site in Kancheepuram. Upon collapsing at work, he was initially taken to a nearby private hospital before being transferred to RGGGH, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
In a separate incident, another construction worker from a site near Minjur bypass was brought to RGGGH after suffering from a heatstroke. Complaints of heat cramps, excessive sweating, and dizziness prompted his hospitalization. Additionally, the individual presented with renal issues and other underlying health conditions, requiring close monitoring and treatment at the hospital.
Current Situation
Dean Theranirajan reported that the second patient’s condition is now stable, with medical staff closely monitoring his health and conducting necessary evaluations. The individual is undergoing treatment for various health parameters to ensure a full recovery.
Meanwhile, Karur Paramathi experienced another scorching day, with temperatures soaring to 43.8 degrees Celsius, significantly exceeding the normal range by 7.5 degrees Celsius. Erode closely followed with a temperature of 43.4 degrees Celsius, surpassing the average by 5.9 degrees Celsius, despite experiencing heavy summer showers the previous night.
