These five handguns were confiscated on May 1 in Oxnard, leading to the arrest of two suspects for firearm and gang conspiracy crimes.

California Highway Patrol Officer Injured in High-Speed Pursuit

A California Highway Patrol officer sustained injuries during a pursuit of an 18-year-old Camarillo woman who was allegedly driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph on Highway 101.

The incident began in Santa Barbara County before local CHP officers joined the chase as the vehicle entered Ventura County around 9 p.m. The pursuit continued on the southbound side of the freeway until the driver exited at Johnson Drive in Ventura, where she entered a dead-end private lot before colliding with a patrol vehicle.

The officer suffered minor injuries in the collision and was taken to a Ventura hospital for treatment of neck, back, shoulder, and leg pain, according to CHP spokesman Ryan Ayala.

The woman was arrested on charges of driving recklessly to evade law enforcement and assault with a deadly weapon for the Infiniti sedan she was driving. She is currently held at Todd Road Jail with bail set at $50,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

Arrests Made in Oxnard for Weapon and Gang Offenses

Two Oxnard men were taken into custody after being stopped in a residential area of the city and found in possession of five unregistered handguns.

The arrests were made in the 400 block of South Ventura Road, where police discovered two 9mm semiautomatic handguns without serial numbers, one of which had a pistol barrel capable of accepting a flash suppressor or silencer.

The 25-year-old driver faces charges of assault weapon possession, transport, import, or manufacture of an assault weapon, carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, and criminal street gang conspiracy. The 22-year-old passenger is charged with carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, criminal street gang conspiracy, and firearm possession by a felon.

Both suspects are held in county jail with bail set at $100,000 each and are scheduled for court appearances early this week.
